History and origin
The Gautam belong to the Suryavanshi divisions of Rajputs, found in North India.[1]
The Gautam claim descent from a Brahmin called Siringhi, who married a daughter of the Gaharwar rajah. For his dowry he obtained all the country between Allahabad to Haridwar. They are said to have originated in the region above or around the doab area of the upper Gangetic plain. In the modern times this area represents the territory around the border of the State ofRajasthan and Western Uttar Pradesh. After 7th century A.D. Gautam Rajput clan also migrated outside the place of their origin, like the other Rajput clans. Gautam Rajputs are not widely known in Rajasthan (the ancient Rajputana).

Gautam Rajputs are not widely known in Rajasthan (the ancient Rajputana) due to their limited migration to that area.[2]
